Reggio Emilia is a very intriguing pedagogy. Envisioned by Loris Malaguzzi and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia in Italy, ca. 1945, it is a child-centered, open-ended, curiousity-minded approach to education that closely follows the innate drive for education found in children. In many ways, the pedagogy is coincident with Montessori, yet with seemingly more focus and allotment for project-based and creative learning. The collaborative environment between students and teachers as mutually supportive co-learners is particularly compelling. Likewise, the decreased (hopefully eliminated?) reliance on a set curriculum is an inspiring precept.

This being a new topic of understanding for us, we may have Reggio Emilia all or partially wrong. We will certainly be building this page more authoritatively as we learn more.

In the meantime, there is a Reggio Emilia school up in Gray, the Fiddlehead School of Arts & Sciences, that is well worth checking out. And here is the homepage for the Reggio Emilia Approach to learn more.
